New figures released today are leading economists to wonder whether or not the mywetplanet's in a recession. Does the economy need to be officially declared to be in a recession? It could be that growth in some sectors are not as sluggish as was earlier predicted.
Hog wash! Living in the Ohio Valley, we have more than enough signs to say that we are hurting financially. Isn't it enough to watch gasoline prices rise above $3.85/gallon? Isn't it enough to pay significantly higher prices for food to eat?
Isn't it enough to live on a fixed income, having to pay more and more for the same amount of the essentials? Isn't it enough to see salaries that are stagnant ..... not even keeping pace with the cost of living? We can't afford to drive anywhere because it costs $75 for one tank of gas!
The job market is as cold as a January night! We are wearing the same clothes as we wore 2 years ago, just to make ends meet!
I'm thankful for a roof over our heads. I'm thankful that my family is not sick, or something worse. Of course, there are an endless list of things to be thankful for. It's not the end of the world!
The point is ...... the future! What does next month bring? What about after that? Just keeping pace with having a home, eating, and staying healthy are essential things I worry about frequently. I'm certainly not the only person in this situation ..... or worse.
When I hear about families using a Lowe's credit card just to buy enough gasoline to drive to work ..... that worries me. We have to think about our future and our lives in a totally different light in order to simply survive! What tomorrow brings seems to be totally out of my control.
I thank God everyday for all that He has given my family. I am thankful that my children have the opportunities to live in America and maybe have a better life than my generation. Balancing life's necessities with gifts of God's love is a challenge that only the strong of heart and mind will win with. Let's pray that God has mercy on all of us ..... in these times of great change and equally great challenges!
God Bless all of you,
